The Redwing Series of Flight Droids were designed with covert operations in mind. The base unit is a simple droidbrain, with repulsor-lift piloting navigation, and basic medical programming, contained within a backpack case which contains three small jets powered by an internal power source (capable of providing thrust for several hours before needing a recharge) and twin wings which deploy cybernetically from the pack, and assist the pilot with maneuvering.

The wings can deploy in as little as a second, but because of the complex and sensitive materials used, the droid must carefully retract them after use, a process which takes three minutes to complete.

The droidbrain is designed to interface with state of the art imperial armour, allowing the wearer to interface with the droid and control the flight with little effort. In the case of an emergency situation (defined as the wearer being knocked unconscious or mortally wounded) the unit flies the injured rider to a pre-programmed “Safe” zone for medical aid.

The material of the wings includes a Reflec coating, which increases the difficulty of sensors checks to detect the glider by one difficulty level. Visual data from the sensors on the unit can be fed directly into the wearers HUD, keeping them up to date with flight speed, coordinates, and the encrypted low-level transponder signals of fellow Redwing pilots using the same frequency. This allows them to remain in ‘visual’ contact with other team members at all times). The navigation protocols also contain a ‘terrain-following mode’ which provides a bonus of +1D to navigation and piloting checks to follow terrain.
